At ABIONIK innovation as well as research and development are very important. Over the last three decades we have systematically built up and expanded our market leadership in comprehensive systems for waste water, exhaust air, stormwater and drinking water treatment.

An important innovation topic for us is that of innovative sponge city concepts in which a large number of our quality technologies are bundled and used as a system solution to create a modular underground storage system in a large city to absorb suddenly occurring excess rainwater runoff. The city's subsoil literally serves as a sponge that absorbs large amounts of excess water and thus protects the surface from flooding and devastation in the event of heavy rainfall or stormwater accumulation.

We invest in innovative sponge city concepts in focus regions such as China, and work together with local planners and implementation partners. For this, we have already been awarded the Top100 Innovator prize in 2015.
